Closure
It is with profound sadness that the Board of Trustees announces the permanent closure of the Attlee Centre. After 46 years of serving children, young people, and families across Tower Hamlets, the charity ceased trading on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, and has entered compulsory liquidation.
This has been an incredibly painful decision. For over three years, our team pursued every possible avenue to secure a viable lease and sustainable funding. Despite our exhaustive efforts to save the charity, we have been left with no viable path forward. We sincerely apologise that we were unable to provide our community with more advance notice.
For nearly half a century, generations of children and families have laughed, learned, played, grown, and found support at the Attlee Centre. We have been privileged to witness countless young people flourish and families build lasting friendships. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our staff, volunteers, trustees, funders, partners, and the wider Spitalfields community.
Families & Service Users: If you require assistance identifying alternative local play and support services, please contact Sam Brown at Tower Hamlets Council via sam.brown@towerhamlets.gov.uk
Tenants & Hirers: For all building-related matters, existing tenancies, or outstanding bookings from 1 October 2026 onwards, please direct your enquiries to Sam Brown at the email address above.
Creditors: Following the commencement of the liquidation process, the Official Receiver will contact creditors directly regarding the process for submitting claims.
While the Centre’s physical doors have closed, the impact it has had on thousands of lives over the past 46 years will endure. We are immensely proud of what we achieved together.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and allowing us to be part of your family’s journey. The legacy of the Attlee Centre will live on in the lives of those we were privileged to serve.
With sincere gratitude and sadness,
